NGC 7293 Helix Nebula – Bright Planetary Nebula in Aquarius

  • Description: - A large bright planetary nebula in the central region of the Milky Way in Sagittarius. This item is really low on the horizon for Northern locations reaching a heigh of less than 18 degrees at most from the shooting location. Between its low altitude and a combination of forest fire smoke and agricultural harvesting dust also low in the sky I only managed a few decent sub exposures of this item, tossing many others out. This also impacted the amount of noise in the overall image.

  • Telescope: Astro-Physics AP92 telescope w 92FF giving 644mm focal length at f/7.

  • Camera: SBIG STT-8300M @ -35C Sensor Temperature

  • Exposure: 9 Red, 7 Green and 6 Blue sub exposures of 10 min each for 220 minutes total through Baader RGB filters

  • Date: 2023-09-17 at 13C and 45%RH.

  • Location: a friend's private acreage near Cayley, Alberta under Bortle 4 skies

  • Processed in PixInsight with NoiseXT and BlurXT, then finished in Adobe Photoshop.
