Open Cluster Messier 18
  • Description: Open cluster M18 in Sagittarius. It is the loose cluster of about 20 stars, located to the lower right of M17 or just left of center. Compact at about 9 arc minutes in diameter, combined brightness is magnitude 6.9. The large bright cloud of stars in the bottom half of the picture is Messier 24 - the Small Sagittarius Star Cloud. Below that is IC1283/84 at the bottom of the image.
