The Veil Nebula - Supernova Remnant in Cygnus
Veil Nebula in Cygnus
  • Description: The veil nebula is an expanding shell of material created when a star, about 20x the size of our sun, died in a violent explosion around 10,000 years ago. This expanding debris is located about 2400 light years from Earth. This image shows one edge of this expanding shell of gasses. You can see the expanding shell pushing gasses and dust outward towards the top of the image, leaving a clearing of bright white stars in its wake.
