Messier 97 – Planetary Nebula in Ursa Major


  • Description: - Messier 97 aka The Owl Nebula. A bright planetary nebula in Ursa Major (the Big Dipper), visible in binoculars from a good site just off the bottom of the bucket closer to Merak than Phecda

  • Camera: ASI533MM with Chroma RGB and 3nm Ha and Oiii filters

  • Telescope: Astro-Physics AP130EDT

  • Exposure: 3hrs of 5 minutes each R,G & B plus 40min of Oiii and 60min of Ha in 10min exposures, for 4hr 40min total

  • Location: Bright City of Calgary, Alberta

  • Imaging Date: 2025-02-26 for RGB and 2025-04-04 for Ha and Oiii

  • Processed in PixInsight with RCAstro Tools
