- Description: Index Catalogue entry 417 is a fairly large emission nebula at 13 x 8.5
arc minutes. It is located about 1.5 degrees south of Messier M38 and a similar distance west
of Messier M36. At its core is the small open cluster Stock 8, 40 stars in an area 5 arc minutes
across.
