IC5146 - The cocoon Nebula
  • Description: IC5146 - The Cocoon Nebula in Cygnus. This nebula is a blend of red emission nebula, blue reflection nebula and dark nebula in silhouette against the background stars. The star cluster embedded in the nebula is Collinder 470, a group of magnitude 9.5 or so stars 12 arc minutes across. Click here for a deeper look at the background nebulosity.

    Also known as Caldwell 19 and Sh2-125. The dark nebulosity is known as Barnard 168 or The Caterpillar Nebula.
