Dark Shark Nebula - Nebulosity in Cepheus

  • Description: The Dark Shark is a patch of dark nebula also known as LDN1235, located in the constellation of Cepheus. It is a patch of dust and cold gas, a dark nebula, with a few patches of blue reflection nebula. These are VdB150 (upper) and VdB149 (lower). There is also a small spiral galaxy behind the nebula, catalogue numbers PGC67671 and UGC11861, about 64 million light-years distant. The Shark is located about 650 light-years away. This photo was shot under the dark skies at the Southern Alberta Star Party near the Cypress Hills in S.E. Alberta.
