NGC5907 and SN2026kid - Galaxy and Supernova in Draco

  • Description: NGC5907 is the large edge-on galaxy on the right, the yellow arrow is pointing at supernova SN2026kid. SN 2026kid is a type SN II supernova discovered on April 22, 2026 at 14:23:47 UT by the ATLAS, ZTF, STSP group(s)/facilities. At the time of discovery, SN 2026kid was magnitude 16.62. NGC5907 is about 50 million light-years away glowing at magnitude 11.1, measures at 12.9 x 1.3 arc minutes in size.

    In the upper left is galaxy NGC5908, magnitude 12.8 and 3.2 x 1.6 arc minutes in size. The cool spiral on the mid left is NGC5905. It is a bit brighter at magnitude 12.5 and measures 4.7 x 3.6 arc minutes. Along the bottom edge of this image is NGC5866b glowing dimly at magnitude 14.8 and is more compact at 2.6 x 1.8 arc minutes.
